Fnally we have the product we've been waiting for! This for people who don't want to wear a bike helmet. It is specifically designed for cyclists as a 'helmet replacement'. It' a collar like a head band but is worn  around the neck. On impact, activation takes just 0.1 second. Maybe we'd all be a little safer in this world if we put this on first thing in the morning... like right after brushing our teeth. We'd be safer wherever we go, regardless of what danger we faced during our busy day.  I'm sure our local bike shops will begin stocking this item soon!
The photo attached shows the airbag deployed, protecting the head and neck.

I call invention FAIL!  What are you suppose to do if you crash and can still ride?  After this $5000 (who knows how much) device has it's one time use, it completely blocks any field of vision.  Personally I would be afraid it would accidentally deploy.

Surprisingly, I don't think this is just a photoshop joke!
I fould a couple of sites with serious write ups & the website from the designers.

This is the website from the designers (it's in Swedish)

http://www.hovding.com/how.php

Here is a website with a video & some photos.  Apparently the thing is kind of large undeployed based on the silly scarves the models have around their necks.  You can see the unit in the videos.  it is about like the air pillow some folks use on airplanes.  I really don't see this catching on.  Seems like more nusance than a helmet (you need to keep it charged).  And no more comfortable than a helmet.  And no less geeky looking.

No advantages over a helmet with lots more cost......  Cost expected to be about $450.....
But you have got to love progress & the inventive, entrepenerial spirit!
VIDEO IS WORTH A LOOK.

Certainly not a joke but I expect  for a limited, affluent, fashion conscious market. As the photos attached show, this is for those who can't afford  their hair-dos messed  by a 'hair crusher' helmet while biking to work and having meetings with clients in a world of well-coffed corporate types. There's nothing more impressive then biking to work in a major urban center and looking like a fashion model ... or at worst, looking like you just removed your triathlon  swim cap. Shocked Click on the images and you'll see the innovative ways to conceal the airbag collar.

The crash test dummy vs. car videos are impressive and it took 6 years to develop the product in Sweden. Did I mention 'Sweden'? That's in Europe where people do ride bikes to work, are fashion conscious and possibly even have disposable  (lots of) income Cheesy

One thing for sure, I wouldn't want to be wearing this horse collar thing on a hot day. But for the winter residents in Vero, Bevin could sell a few at Bicycle Sport.
